Notes for Battery Auditionees

  • Audition Etude - This is your chance to show off your skills both as a musician and a performer! Please memorize this so you can focus on playing and performing it during your individual audition.

  • CoRE Packet - We will definitely play the following exercises:

  • 8-8-16, Tap Pyramid, Triplet Grid, Short Short Long (Triplet), Moeller Singles, Chucky Cheese, and Shopping Spree

  • Please familiarize yourself with those exercises. We recommend you skim the rest of the packet and play through any exercises you haven't seen before at least once before coming to the audition so you can feel prepared and ready to perform!

  • Cymbal players will be assessed throughout the weekend on a variety of techniques and sounds in addition to the etude piece provided in the Battery Audition Packet.

Notes for Front Ensemble Auditionees

  • Synth players will play the mallet line in the right hand, timpani line in the left hand. They may add notes to left hand chords as harmonically appropriate.

  • Drum set players should prepare standard and jazz grooves. Staff will provide further instructions.

  • Auxiliary percussionists may improvise based on standard rhythms, the Drumming page, or other musical knowledge.
