Audition Materials
Notes for Battery Auditionees
-
The Audition Etude is your chance to show off your skills both as a musician and a performer! Please memorize this so you can focus on playing and performing it during your individual audition and as an ensemble.
-
Be prepared to play basic exercises on the move to common drill exercises (e.g. box drill), and expect to learn variations on the spot.
-
Be confident and ask questions! Clarifying details helps everyone do better.
-
If you aren’t able to play something well at the suggested tempo, we’d rather see you play it slowly and correctly than fast and wrong. Focus on quality first.
-
Play with the technique you are comfortable with unless told otherwise.
Notes for Front Ensemble Auditionees
-
For any unwritten parts, Drum set players should prepare standard and jazz grooves. Staff will provide further instructions.
-
Timpani, Auxiliary percussionists, and other instruments may improvise unwritten parts based on standard rhythms, the Drumming page, or other musical knowledge.
